The 20-year-old driver involved in a hit and run accident is facing serious criminal charges as well as a civil suit from the family of a 49-year-old man that was killed in the incident. K.T. was reportedly leaving her job as a bartender at a local night club in the predawn hours of a day in late January when she got in her car and hit the victim, S.R. S.R. was crossing a street on his way to his job as an executive chef at a nearby hotel. A witness said he saw K.T. hit the man and then continue driving. The impact sent the man's body flying into a driveway where he died. The witness followed the girl and tried to get her to stop but she refused. She drove to her home and was then arrested by police. She refused to do a breathalyzer test but a blood test was done after the arrest according to DUI laws. Police received the results of the test and were shocked to discover that despite the blood being drawn two hours after the incident she had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.225 percent—nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent had she been of legal drinking age. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help you get those liable for your injury or loss held legally responsible for all damages suffered.
K.T. has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and DUI manslaughter and is currently being held on house arrest. The family of the man killed in the accident filed a suit against the 20-year-old as well as the company that owns the night club where K.T. had been working and allegedly obtained alcohol. S.R. is survived by his wife, a daughter age 12 and a son age 9.
