A wealthy Fort Lauderdale investor went missing recently after taking his boat out onto the Atlantic. The 35-year-old man was last seen taking his 31-foot fishing boat from its dock at sunset one evening. It was also reported to be a fairly windy night with higher than normal waves. The man, G.A., did not return with his boat that night. His boat was found adrift the next day but G.A. was nowhere to be found. Investigators discovered that a tie bar which allows the twin outboard motors to be steered in unison had been broken. It is possible that this damage to his boat caused G.A. to lose control due to erratic movement of the vessel on windy seas. Investigators also stated that it is possible that this mechanical problem could have thrown any passenger overboard but further investigation is necessary. Despite the many theories about what may have happened to the man, authorities are considering it a missing persons case and have found no evidence of foul play. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a boating accident caused by negligence or mechanical failure then consult with a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
About Boating in Florida
Florida is well known for its spectacular boating areas. From the many lakes and waterways to ocean boating opportunities, it is no wonder why so many come to this state to enjoy water activities. There are nearly a million registered boats in the state of Florida but unfortunately this also means an increased risk of boating accident injuries. Many accidents are caused by individuals operating the boat in a reckless manner such as speeding or operating the boat under the influence of alcohol ("BWI" boating while intoxicated).
