Nursing Home Abuse Case Makes Headlines

Another case of nursing home abuse has made its way into the news this week.

According to a report issued by local inspectors, the Lauriston Christian Nursing Home on the Green, St Leonards, was reviewed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). They were called in to investigate "a serious incident where a resident was harmed". What they found was that the home had failed on 13 standards, including proper food and medicine administration, providing safe and appropriate care and protecting from the risk of abuse.

The home is run by Southern Cross Healthcare which specializes in looking after cancer patients, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. In order to avoid being shut down, the company is cooperating with the CQC to draft up an action plan to get the home back on track. In the report Roxy Boyce, the regional director for the southeast, commented that: "The care at Lauriston Christian Nursing Home has fallen far short of the standards people have a right to expect."

Other issues that arose during the investigation included a lack of staff, and especially those were did not appear to be properly trained.

To put an end to nursing home abuse, it is advised that you hire a personal injury lawyer.
