La Salle University to Pay $7.5 Million for Brain Injury Lawsuit

According to several news outlets, La Salle University has recently agreed to pay $7.5 million to end the lawsuit filed against the college.  The University has agreed to pay for the lifetime costs of care giving for one of their former football players, who sustained a brain injury during a game in 2005.

The player, Preston Plevretes, and his family sued the Philadelphia University because they allege that he was ordered to play during a game after sustaining a concussion during practice several weeks earlier.  However, the University contested that Plevretes' brain injury resulted from a second blow, not the concussion incurred during practice.

La Salle University did not admit to any wrongdoing, but agreed to a settlement the day the case was supposed to go to trial.  Following the settlement, the University released a statement, saying that, "[f]rom the time of Preston's injury, the university community, led by those who know Preston and his family, have been hoping and praying for his recovery. That hasn't changed."
