CPSC Warns that Recalled Cribs are Being Sold in Thrift Stores
Posted on Dec 4, 2009 2:50pm PST
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is reminding the public of a recall that took place 8 years ago after reports came in that LaJobi Inc. baby cribs posed a risk of entrapment, strangulation, and death.
The CPSC is now warning the public that these cribs might still be for sale in second-hand and thrift stores. About 400 of the "Molly" and "Betsy" cribs were recalled in 2001 after it was discovered that babies could get their head stuck in the openings between the wood, ultimately leading to strangulation.
Product Description
The following is a list of the model numbers recalled for each of the cribs:
"Molly"
"Besty"
The cribs were made in Italy and sold in specialty stores throughout the country from May 2000 through September 2001 for approximately $700 for the Molly and $650 for the Besty. The cribs have not been for sale since they were orginally recalled in 2001.
If you have recently purchased one of the these cribs from a second-hand store, thrift store, or a private seller, you should get rid of the crib immediately and contact the CPSC if your child suffers an injury. Similarly, all sellers should stop selling or giving these cribs away.
