One person was severely injured and another killed when a man driving a car collided with a motorcycle recently. K.M. had just become engaged to marry her boyfriend, T.R., but that dream was ended after a devastating accident. K.M. was riding on the back of a motorcycle being driven by T.R. on a local street when they were hit by a car. The crash happened around 8:35 in the evening. A 68-year-old man driving a Lexus sedan reportedly collided with the motorcycle. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and rushed both motorcycle riders to a local hospital. Each had suffered severe injuries. Despite best efforts, K.M. succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. T.R. had two broken legs as well as other injuries but was expected to survive. The driver of the sedan was checked out by medical personnel and cleared at which point police arrested the man on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was released the next day after posting $100,000 bail. If you were injured in an accident caused by a drunk or drugged driver then you should speak with a personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
Drivers who choose to get behind the wheel after becoming impaired by alcohol or drugs are putting the lives of other drivers, passengers, pedestrians, bicycle and motorcycle riders all at risk—not to mention their own life and the lives of any passengers they may have in their own vehicle. Intoxicated drivers cause over 10,000 fatalities across the U.S. every year according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Damages from these crashes result in over $35 billion annually. These statistics are staggering to say the least. A skilled legal professional may be able to help you obtain the substantial compensation you deserve after suffering an injury crash or losing a loved one in an accident that occurred because of the recklessness of a person under the influence of an intoxicant.
