A woman from Pomfret, CT was killed in an accident when the boat she was on hit some rocks near Noank. A 50-foot boat with 10 people and a dog aboard made a distress call to the Coast Guard around 2:30 in the afternoon on a recent Sunday. The owner of the boat reported that the craft had hit some rocks and was sinking. The boat overturned and it was at that time that the owner's wife went missing. A nearby boat was able to rescue nine of the people who had been on board as well as the dog. The nine people were taken ashore to waiting ambulances which transported the survivors to local hospitals. They are all reported as currently being in good health. The Coast Guard and fire department personnel searched for the woman for six hours but had to call it off due to water and weather conditions. The woman's body was found early the next day. Exact cause of death has not been released as yet. The boat sunk and remains on the ocean floor under about 42 feet of water. Initial reports say that the boat was not overloaded but it is not yet known why or how it crashed into the rocks.
