Man Charged in Connection to Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Police recently arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of hitting a little girl with his vehicle and then fleeing the scene. The accident happened just before 8:00 pm on a Sunday night when a 7-year-old little girl was crossing a street in the company of a family member. The little girl was struck by a sport utility vehicle and then hit by a second car that was behind the SUV. The SUV that initial hit her fled the scene. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Despite all efforts, the little girl died of her injuries at the medical facility. Police continued searching for the vehicle and driver involved in the hit-and-run accident and asked the public's help in locating a black SUV that had sustained damage to the left front headlight. Suspect Charged in Hit and Run

Dallas police had stated later on Sunday that they were interviewing a person of interest but did not state more at the time. The next afternoon, police announced that 34-year-old J.S. had been taken into custody on suspicion of being the driver involved in the hit and run accident that claimed the 7-year-old's life. He has since been officially charged with failure to stop and render aid which is a third degree felony punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and 10 years in state prison.
