A 57-year-old man was struck and killed recently by a hit and run driver. The incident occurred on 56th Avenue when the wheelchair bound victim was crossing a street around 5:20 in the morning. He lived at a nearby assisted living facility but was capable of going on short excursions on his own. A black sedan struck the man in his chair as he was crossing and then sped off from the scene. His wheelchair had been completely mangled in the incident and he was left lying in the middle of the street. Another driver came upon the accident scene shortly after it happened and called authorities. An ambulance promptly arrived to transport the critically injured man to the hospital while police searched for the vehicle involved. A black four door sedan was found near the intersection of Northwest 79th Avenue and Northwest 44th Street. The driver was subsequently taken into custody and his vehicle impounded. The victim underwent extensive procedures in an effort to save his life but his injuries were too severe and he died after several hours of surgery.
Injured in a pedestrian accident?
Consult with a personal injury lawyer as soon as you can after being injured in a pedestrian accident. A car versus pedestrian collision can result in severe and devastating injuries since a person walking along a roadway has little to no protection when it comes to an impact with an auto weighing a ton or more. Common injuries include internal bleeding, broken bones, fractures, brain trauma, severe lacerations, contusions, spinal damage, paralysis, amputation and others. The causes of such accidents can often be attributed to driver error, speeding, distracted driving (texting while driving, etc.), driver fatigue, driving while intoxicated, etc. If someone else is responsible for causing you injury or loss then he or she should be held fully liable for all damages caused.
