Authorities recently released information regarding a fatal single vehicle accident involving three Chico State students. An 18-year-old student, D.A., was driving a late model BMW sedan on a night in late January with two fellow students when the deadly crash happened. D.A. was traveling on Bidwell Avenue at about 12:40 a.m. when he approached a curve in the road. He lost control and the sedan went off the road and flipped over. It landed on its roof in the Big Chico Creek. Creek levels were low so the car had landed about four feet from where water was actually flowing. One of the passengers, A.S., 20 years old, had suffered traumatic head injuries and had died before paramedics arrived. The other passenger, 19-year-old B.M., had severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. He died two days later. D.A. was initially taken into custody after the crash after he was allegedly determined to be intoxicated. Shortly afterward, however, he was taken to the hospital after showing possible brain injury symptoms. It turned out that he had indeed been seriously injured and he went into a coma and is currently on a breathing machine. Toxicology tests showed that D.A.'s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.06 percent after the accident and he had a "significant amount of marijuana" in his system. Should D.A. recover from his injuries he could be facing serious criminal charges for DUI manslaughter as well as personal injury lawsuits. If you were hurt in car accident or lost a loved one because of a reckless driver then consult with a personal injury lawyer.
