Two people riding a jet ski near Coney Island were killed while celebrating the Independence Day holiday. The accident happened that evening when C.H., 29, and W.T., 44, were riding the same jet ski. W.T. was controlling the watercraft while C.H. was a passenger. The woman, C.H., fell off the jet ski at which point witnesses say that W.T. went back to look for her. He jumped in the water to try to find her and that was the last time either individual was seen alive. The Coast Guard searched the area for nearly 20 hours before finding their bodies. Neither C.H. nor W.T. was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident. Investigators are trying to find out how the woman fell off the jet ski and whether or not she was conscious when she went into the water. Talk to a personal injury lawyer if you need help with a boating accident case.
Many boating accidents are the result of carelessness or negligence. An operator may perform reckless or aggressive maneuvers with the watercraft without having the necessary skill or experience which can lead to serious injuries or drowning. Other causes of boating accidents can include operating the vessel while impaired by alcohol or drugs, mechanical malfunctions, collisions with another craft and many more. Victims of boating accidents may suffer head trauma, back injuries, burns, lacerations, internal injuries and others. A really severe accident can result in lives lost. Proving negligence in cases involving a boat or other watercraft accident may require careful investigation by those well-versed in this particular area. Make sure you have a legal representative on your side that understands how to get the results you need in order to truly recover.
