NYC Couple Involved in Fatal Accident on Long Island Expressway

An early morning car accident claimed the life of a New York City woman and left her husband seriously injured recently. The crash happened around 4:30 in the morning on Sunday when the two were traveling on the Long Island Expressway. M.P. was driving the couple's SUV and his wife, S.P., was in the front passenger seat; there were no other passengers in the SUV and no one was occupying the pickup at the time. According to police reports, a pickup truck was stopped along the Expressway shoulder because it was broken down. The couple in their SUV crashed into the disabled vehicle. Police and emergency personnel arrived at the crash location and found the woman unresponsive. She had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband had suffered injuries but they were reported as non-life threatening. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. No criminal charges have been filed as yet and intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the deadly incident. Police are trying to determine more details in how the accident happened.
