A Woman driving her late model Nissan Altima with four passengers was charged with a handful of serious crimes after one of her passengers died. A.D., 23 years old, was reportedly speeding when she lost control of her car around 4:00 a.m. on a recent weekend. The driver and at least one of her passengers were all from Connecticut but were visiting New York for the evening. She was heading east when she failed to negotiate a turn onto the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Her car careened into a metal barrier before spinning out into westbound traffic lanes. The force of the collision with the metal road divider caused one of her passengers, a 21-year-old female, to be ejected from the vehicle. The woman landed on roadway and suffered severe injuries. She died at the scene. A.D. and the remaining three passengers had also been injured. All four were taken by ambulances to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. A.D. was arrested by police upon her release from the hospital the next day. She has been charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree manslaughter and manslaughter. No information was available concerning whether or not the family of the victim who died will be pursuing a wrongful death civil suit. Talk to a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible if you were the victim of a car accident caused by a drunk driver.
Car accidents result in thousands upon thousands of injuries and fatalities every year in the U.S. Many of these accidents could have been prevented but were not due to negligence or recklessness. Drunk drivers, drugged drivers, texting while driving, speeding, aggressive maneuvers and other actions are often to blame. Make sure you are not unfairly stuck with medical bills, lost wages and other damages after an auto crash.
