Traffic accidents frequently lead to injury claims in Connecticut and across the nation. In 2008, per the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT), 26,066 injury accidents and 280 fatal accidents occurred on the roads and highways of the state. Injury accidents decreased in that year from 1999 levels while fatality accidents rose. Not surprisingly, DOT statistics show that most traffic accidents in the state occur during morning and late afternoon / evening rush hours with Friday being the most frequent day of the week for such accidents. Weather seems to have little to do with accident rates in the state as the overwhelming majority of them occur in dry, clear conditions.
In Connecticut, 80 percent of all traffic accidents in 2008 occurred in the counties of Fairfield, Hartford, or New Haven. Hartford led all cities in the states in the number of traffic accidents, followed by Bridgeport, Waterbury, and New Haven. In 25 percent of all accidents reported, the driver lost control and in 28.9 percent of all accidents, a driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Other major human errors in Connecticut traffic accidents included a driver failing to grant the right of way, speeding too fast for conditions, and following too closely. Rear-end collisions comprised almost 32 percent of all accidents while hitting a fixed object was the second most frequent type of crash.
Personal Injury Firm in Hartford, Connecticut
Nearly everyone has had some experience with car accidents, either on a personal basis or through family, neighbors, or friends as a connection. Motor vehicles traveling at any speed can become deadly weapons with collisions causing serious physical injury and emotional trauma. In the wake of such an accident, those injured often need medical care and are unable to work for days, weeks, or even months. All of this stacks up to severe financial consequences, which is why an injury claim is needed in cases where negligence is an underlying factor.
