The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is responsible for investigating car crashes on the roads and highways of the state. Every traffic accident investigated by this agency is assigned a cause factor. In its 2008 published report, the CSP stated that the majority of traffic fatalities that it investigated were caused by intoxicated drivers. The CSP also attributed traffic crashes to inattentive drivers, including those talking or texting on cell phones, eating or grooming while driving, and engaging in other distractions. The second most common cause of fatalities and injuries was speeding. Other causes included aggressive and illegal driving actions, such as lane violations, tailgating, failing to yield right-of-way, improper passing, and ignoring stop signs.
According to the CSP, Jefferson County leads the state in property damage, injury, and fatal traffic accidents. El Paso County follows as the second leading county in such crashes. In 2011, 446 people died in Colorado traffic accidents. In recent traffic accidents in the state, an 18 year-old man who was not wearing a seatbelt was killed in a rollover accident in a Weld County crash. In another crash, a 16 year-old girl died of her injuries when her car went out of control near Monte Vista, Colorado. She also was not wearing a seatbelt. Failure to wear a seatbelt while driving or as a passenger in a vehicle is covered by Colorado statute under Title 42 which lists mandatory use, exemptions, and penalties.
Personal Injury Firm Serving Colorado Springs
The number one cause of personal injury claims in Colorado stem from traffic accidents caused by the negligence of drivers. These claims can also involve the manufacturers of defective auto parts and vehicles which contribute to, exacerbate, or cause such accidents. For those who are injured, hospital and other injury-related expenses as well as the loss of the ability to work and the pain, suffering, and trauma of such an accident can be overwhelming. That is why laws were enacted to protect them.
