Authorities are trying to determine what caused a severe accident recently that left one woman seriously injured and another dead. A woman driving a late model Dodge Neon was traveling with a male passenger on a recent evening when she lost control of the car. The driver, S.C., was taking the small sedan through a curve when she lost control at about 9:44 p.m. and the vehicle went off the side of the road. The car went over a small cemented drainage ditch and then crashed head-on into a tree.
The car burst into flames after hitting the tree. S.C., 33 years old, was able to get out of the vehicle but her passenger, A.V., had been trapped inside. It was unknown if the passenger had been conscious at the time of the impact with the tree. The engine compartment and most of the cabin became consumed in flames. Emergency vehicle arrived and found S.C. outside the vehicle and in the roadway.
Fire crews worked quickly to put out the flames but the 25-year-old passenger had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. S.C. was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Her current condition has not been reported. Investigators are trying to determine why S.C. lost control of the car and what exactly caused the sedan to catch fire. State police have said that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor and charges are not expected to be filed against the woman. If you lost a loved one in an accident that was not his or her fault then you may have grounds for a wrongful death suit. Talk to a personal injury attorney right away to discuss your case.
Investigators did a thorough examination of the accident scene and are continuing to look into the fatal crash. In some car accident cases it is found that anything from driver recklessness or negligence, poorly maintained roadways, poor vehicle maintenance, defective machinery or any combination of the many factors involved could be responsible for a wreck. Make sure you have the help of an accident attorney that understands all aspects of such cases.
