Inmate's Family Sues Jail in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The family of a man detained in a Kentucky jail has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the jailer and ten deputies.

In the lawsuit, Randy Jackson's family claims he was healthy and in good mental capacity when he entered the jail. Three hours later he was rushed to Saint Luke Hospital with injuries to his neck, head, and torso.  He was later transferred to another hospital where he eventually passed away.

The lawsuit also mentions an autopsy concluded that the injuries that ultimately killed Jackson had to have come from inside the jail.

Jackson's family believes he was murdered in the jail. The family's attorney, Eric Deters, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court and has called for a special prosecutor to lead a criminal investigation.

Back in August a Boone County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said Jackson was brought to the jail with lacerations from a domestic violence incident in which he was pushed down three steps and hit his head.  No other comments have been made.

The family is seeking an unspecified amount in compensatory damages, punitive damages, and court costs.
