Kite String Seriously Injures Boy in New York

In Queens, New York, it is being reported that kite string that was made for the purpose of "kite fighting" caused a teenage boy to sustain serious injuries and almost led to his death.  The incident occurred in October.  During that time, sharp kite string caught hold of the boy's neck and slit his throat.

According to reports, the boy had been skateboarding near his home in Flushing when he was clotheslined by abandoned kite string.  The kite string had been lined with glass for the purpose of kite fighting and it slit the boy's throat from ear-to-ear.

After being cut by the cut string, the boy fell to the ground with the string still wrapped around his neck.  His neighbors saw him fall and rushed to help him.  One neighbor turned the boy over while the other used his own shirt to slow the bleeding from the boy's injured neck.

Once EMTs arrived, they took the teenager to a local hospital where he received 400 - 500 stitches.   Due to the severity of the lacerations, the boy also lost both of his lymph nodes.

Since then, the boys' parents have filed a lawsuit against the state of New York for permitting kite flying in Flushing Meadows Park.  The parents are also seeking damages from the co-op complex for not removing the kite and kite string from the premises.

At this time, it has not been revealed what amount of damages the boys' family is seeking.
