A 22-year-old woman, A.W., just missed a head-on car crash with oncoming traffic when she side swiped another car. The accident happened around 3:00 in the morning on a recent Saturday. A.W. was traveling down a Southbury roadway when she veered across the center line and into traffic going the opposite direction. She then ran into the side of a car, narrowly missing a full head-on collision. A.W. lost control of her vehicle at that point and crashed into a power pole. The driver of the vehicle that was hit, as well as a passenger in A.W.'s car, was transported to a local medical center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Drunk drivers should be held fully responsible for all damages they have caused; talk to a personal injury lawyer today.
A.W. was taken into custody by the local police and later released on $500 non-surety bond. She has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and several moving violations including misuse of a driver's license, traveling unreasonably fast for conditions and failure to drive to the right. She is scheduled to appear in the Waterbury Court on the charges later in August. Reports do not state whether or not a civil suit is being pursued by those injured in the accident.
Was an intoxicated driver responsible for your accident injuries?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that drunk drivers are behind about 31% of all fatal car accidents in the nation. Connecticut has its share of DWI crashes and law enforcement comes down hard on those who get behind the wheel while intoxicated—but that only addresses the criminal aspect. When it comes to getting justice for those who were the victims of a drunk driving accident or for the families that have lost a loved one, additional legal action must be taken. Make sure you know your rights when it comes to personal injury law!
