According to a Reuters.com article, allegations are flying that Pfizer and the FDA cut corners when it came to approving the drug Chantix; now Pfizer is feeling the ill effects of its negligence. The drug apparently was not tested adequately on patients who had a known history of mental illness and was approved and marketed anyway. The drug is now being linked to hundreds of patient suicides and attempted suicides.
Consumers Are Taking Action
Due to the tremendous negative effects of the drug, a court in Alabama is preparing to centralize over twelve hundred civil lawsuits against Pfizer directly relating to the dangers of the drug Chantix. Allegations of suicide or suicide attempts were brought up in 60% of the cases. Attorneys who are representing these victims are alleging that Pfizer had knowledge of the dangerous side effects of Chantix, but failed to properly warn both doctors and patients. Several other important lawsuits have been filed against Pfizer starting in the year 1996.
Seek Legal Advice if Victimized
Drug manufacturers do not always act responsibly and sometimes have their attention more on profits rather than peoples' well being. They make billions of dollars yearly selling drugs to consumers. If you have been the victim of a defective product in the Hartford area, you should contact a Hartford attorney immediately and get competent legal help. When insufficient testing results in a product being defective leading to the injury or deaths of innocent consumers, those responsible need to be held accountable.
