Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in the United States. Of all deaths in the U.S., heart disease accounts for 28.5%. Heart attacks can occur at any place, and at any time, not even our car can protect us from the inevitable heart attack.
For example, a 54-year-old motorist struck two pedestrians at an Otay Mesa vehicle auction yard after suffering from a heart attack while he was behind the wheel. The accident took place at the Road One auto auctions on Otay Mesa Road at Alta Road at around 9:30 a.m. on March 24th, which is one mile east of the San Diego city limits and just North of the Mexican border.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee suffered from a heart attack while driving, which caused his vehicle to steer out of control inside the auction yard, according to CHP officials. The Jeep collided with a metal barrier and two pedestrians. CPR was performed on the heart attack victim, who died en route to the hospital. The two pedestrians sustained minor injuries and one of them, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Woman Strikes Tree While in Cardiac Arrest
On the other side of the country, a 69-year-old Milton woman struck a tree on a Friday evening after she had gone into cardiac arrest, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Connell was driving in the westbound direction on Hickory Hammock Road around 7:25 p.m. when she went into cardiac arrest. As she lost control of her vehicle, the car veered to the north shoulder, crossed the road, and went back to the shoulder where it eventually struck an oak tree.
Helen Blanche Connell was seriously injured in the accident and was transported to the hospital where she later died. She was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident.
