A three-year-old Houston boy received severe injuries recently when he was thrown from an ATV. He was riding on the back of the four-wheeler being driven by a relative. It was common for the family to use ATVs, off-road motorcycles and golf carts to get around their property which includes quite a bit of acreage. The boy's parents had purchased helmets and other safety gear for their children but did not ensure that it was always worn. On this specific occasion, the parents admitted that it was such a short distance over terrain that wasn't particularly rough that they let it slide. Unfortunately, the parents learned that accidents can happen at any time. The relative driving the ATV hit a bump and lost control of the vehicle. The boy, C.C., went flying off the ATV and landed some distance away. The ATV toppled on to its side, partially landing on the driver. C.C.'s father had been riding a motorcycle ahead of the ATV and turned around to help as soon as he saw what happened. He found his son lying on his back coughing and clutching his chest. The boy also looked disoriented. The family called 911 and their son was rushed to a local hospital by an ambulance. If you or a loved one was seriously injured in an accident caused by someone else's recklessness or negligence then speak with a personal injury attorney immediately.
Boy Returns Home after Nearly Fatal Crash
ER doctors started treating C.C. right away upon arrival. A CT scan revealed that he had suffered two skull fractures and a brain injury. He also had stomach bleeding and bruising on his lungs. In what seemed like a miracle, the little boy began making a rapid recovery after two days in the ICU and did not require surgery. After only four days in the hospital, C.C. was released and taken home. His parents say he is continuing to recover and are hoping that others will learn from their mistakes and ensure that no risks are ever taken when it comes to ATVs.
