A hit and run accident that happened on a recent Sunday evening left a 14-year-old girl with severe head injuries. The girl, D.R., was walking along a street on her way home with her mother around 8:00 at night. The girl's mother said D.R. was a short distance ahead of her when she heard a pickup travelling at a high speed traveling in their direction. The truck swerved out of its lane slightly and hit D.R. who was walking in the grass alongside the road. The driver of the pickup did not stop but continued down the road. D.R. was thrown to the ground in a ditch nearby—she lie there unconscious as her mother, brother and neighbors came to her aid. Emergency responders were contacted and rushed the teen to the hospital. A head scan revealed that bleeding had caused two blood clots in her brain and she needed immediate surgery. She was then taken to another hospital where the surgery was performed. She remains unconscious and requires the help of a breathing machine. Don't hesitate to get the help of knowledgeable personal injury lawyer if you or someone you care about received a head injury in an incident that was not your fault.
Police used D.R.'s mother's description of the pickup truck to look for the driver involved in the serious hit and run. It turned out to be a 17-year-old local boy. He was picked up by police and released back into his parents' supervision after he was questioned about the incident. Reports do not indicate what actions will be taken since the driver is a minor.
