Parents Settle Brain Injury Lawsuit in Seattle

In Maple Valley, Seattle, the parents of a young boy recently settled their personal injury lawsuit. The parents of 13 year old Zachary Lystedt filed their lawsuit against Tahoma School District after their son sustained a
brain injury during his middle school football game.
After being injured during the game in October 2006, Lystedt remained in a coma for several months. His parents claim that he had suffered a concussion after he re-entered the game. Today, Lystedt is no longer able to walk, so he uses a wheelchair. He also had to re-learn how to eat and to talk.
Since Zachary's injury, a new law has been passed in the state of Washington and it was named after him. The law forbids young athletes from re-entering a game if they have a possible concussion. Instead, they must be examined by a medical professional and receive written permission before playing or training. Lystedt's parents are hoping that the new law is adopted nationally.
At this time, the settlement amount has not been revealed. Lystedt's parents say that the settlement will allow them to provide for their son's ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.
