Couple Sues Hospital in Burn Injury Lawsuit

A married couple in West Virginia has filed a burn injury lawsuit against St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.

Patricia and Harold Hatfield claim that Patricia went to the hospital to be treated for tendonitis and left with third degree burns to her mid section.

According to the lawsuit, Patricia was admitted to the hospital for a left shoulder arthroscopic subacromial decompression and a left distal clavicle partial resection.  The procedures were intended to repair the tendonitis and inflammation she was experiencing.  Instead it left her with third degree burns.

The Hatfields are claiming that the hospital and its staff negligently and carelessly used electrocautery equipment during Patricia's surgery that caused her to suffer third degree burns to her abdomen and pelvic areas.

Patricia is seeking damages for her medical expenses, which total around $1,000, permanent scarring and disfigurement, severe pain and suffering, great mental anguish and emotional anxiety, and decreased enjoyment of life.

Patricia's husband, Harold Hatfield, is also seeking damages, claiming that he has been deprived of his wife's society, companionship, consortium, and services.
