Man Sues Tanning Salon for Spinal Cord Injury

Several news sources are reporting that a man has filed a lawsuit against his local tanning salon.  The man, Jason Viles, allegedly filed the lawsuit after being trapped in tanning bed that caught fire on January 19, 2009.

According to Viles, he had been in the tanning bed for approximately 3 minutes when it suddenly caught fire and kept him locked inside.  He stated in his lawsuit, which was filed this past Monday, that he had struggled with the tanning bed's lock and that none of the tanning salon employees came to help him.  Eventually, he was able to escape the inflamed bed through a hole in the top.

Viles claims in his legal action that he sustained a spinal cord injury and also a knee injury that required extensive surgery.  He also suffered, "shock, nervous trauma, mental distress, anxiety, and depression."  The total amount of compensation that Viles is seeking was not listed in his claim.

However, reports say that the fire caused $300,000 in damage to the salon and also neighboring businesses.

Neither teams' lawyers nor the salon owners are willing to talk with the press at this point.
