Just posted on LATimes.com - 15 Los Angeles hospitals and facilities treated 86 of the 135 wounded passengers involved in the Chatsworth Metrolink crash on September 12, 2008. The rest of the 135 victims were treated at Chatsworth hospitals.
Victims were rushed into L.A. hospitals via helicopters, ambulances and even personal cars. 86 injured victims came to the hospitals after a horrific head on crash between the commuter train and a freight train.
The Metrolink train, which was carrying 220 people, collided with a Union Pacific freight train. According to the L.A. Times, "49 people were treated by emergency personnel at or near the Chatsworth scene for relatively minor cuts and bruises, county officials confirmed Monday. The others, ranging in age from 16 to 70, were dispersed to at least 15 area hospitals under a countywide emergency plan, with the most critically injured airlifted to trauma centers such as the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood and County-USC Medical Center in Boyle Heights."
Los Angeles hospitals were prepared for the worse upon hearing about the crash and have not seen such devastation since the Northridge earthquake. According to sources, 25 people died in the Metrolink crash, and various other people sustained
catastrophic injuries.
