Plaxico Burress Sued for Car Accident Injury

This past summer, New York Giants wide receiver, Plaxico Burress, was involved in a car accident where he rear-ended another driver.  That driver, 27 year old Alise Smith, claims that Burress rear-ended her car in Taramac, Florida, in May 2008.  The auto accident not only led to her car being damaged, but also physical injuries.   Smith is currently suing Burress for $15,000 for medical expenses, lost income and property damage.

According to Smith's personal injury lawyer, Gregory Dell, his client was wearing a seatbelt when she was rear-ended by Burress.  Dell alleges that Burress failed to maintain a safe braking distance from his client, and also failed to maintain proper lookout and exercise reasonable care.  Dell feels that Burress' negligence caused the accident and is the reason why his client was injured.

Additionally, Dell shared a document that shows Burress had not paid his insurance premiums to Allstate.  The documents also indicate that the insurance covering Burress' Mercedes Benz had expired 3 days prior to his auto accident with Alise Smith.

This has not been Burress' year as he has faced a few other run-ins with the law.  Burress is currently being tracked down by a collection agency that claims he owes them over $2,000 for damages incurred to a rental car while he was driving it.  He is also in legal trouble for carrying a gun into a nightclub.  While at the nightclub, he accidentally shot himself in the leg, which resulted in national media coverage.
