One man was killed when a shuttle carrying 11 military personnel crashed on Interstate 5. The shuttle, a 15-passenger van, was travelling south to take the men to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole. The light pole fell over and blocked lanes of traffic in both directions. Washington State Police troopers and emergency responders arrived and transported six of the passengers to the hospital. One was in critical condition and another serious. Unfortunately, the man in critical condition had sustained too severe of injuries and he died. The other seriously injured soldier was treated and stabilized. Four others were treated and later released from the hospital. Investigators are continuing to look into the fatal accident to try to determine how it happened. It was announced that drugs or alcohol impairment are not believed to be a factor. If a loved one was killed in an accident that was not his or her fault then you may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim. Talk to a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to find out more.
While a wrongful death lawsuit does involve a compensation claim, this legal action is not just about money. Of course, no amount of money can make up for the loss of a husband, wife, child, parent or sibling but having the person or party who was at fault held liable in the eyes of the law can not only bring a feeling of justice to you and your family but possibly help others from suffering a similar loss due to that party's negligence. You may be able to recover substantial financial damages for things like loss of financial contribution, any medical expenses, funeral and burial costs as well as other damages such as loss of companionship and mental anguish.
