Seattle University Pitcher Lost in Series of Fatal Crashes on Highway

Police reported that a young college student attending Seattle University was killed when his car swerved off the highway, adding another victim to the notorious stretch of road.

The accident is reported to have occurred early in the morning on Sunday, October 15^th. According to local law enforcement authorities, the student was driving along a particularly dangerous stretch of Interstate 5 when his car went off the road.

Reconstructing the events leading up to the crash, investigators say the car suddenly swerved for an unknown reason, after which the driver overcorrected and went off the road. The Toyota Camry flipped over onto the roof before impacting with a nearby tree.

Police say they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. They also noted that the Seattle University student was wearing his seatbelt during the accident. Officers are investigating the cause of the accident, saying they are not sure if a second vehicle was involved.

Recent Speed Limit Change Made in Response to Rash of Fatalities

Authorities investigating the accident have told reporters that the newest fatality is just one of many recent deaths incurred by drivers along Interstate 5. Four other fatal car crashes have occurred along this stretch of road in the past year.

According to local officials, the speed limit was recently reduced in an attempt to combat the string of deaths. The busy corridor is frequently congested with traffic. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being spent to increase safety by building additional exits along the interstate, authorities report.

The victim was a recent transfer to Seattle University, where he played as a pitcher for the baseball team. His coach told the Seattle Times that the young man was extremely talented, and had a future in the MLB before his life was cut tragically short.
