Five-Way Collision Leads to Serious Injuries
Three passengers have been sent to the hospital for treatment, with several others sustaining lesser injuries, after a horrendous five-car pileup in Ballard, reports the Seattle Times. According to the police, the collision occurred at about 6:15PM at the intersection of 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 75
th Street.
A man driving a black Ford Fusion sedan is believed to have initiated the car accident, when he rear-ended a Subaru at high speed, which was carrying a man and his 4-year old child. This initial impact forced the Subaru into the rear of a Dodge pickup truck waiting at the intersection, which then struck 2 other vehicles, a Volvo and another Subaru.
Witnesses say that the first Subaru the proceeded to catch fire, and the 4 year old was trapped inside along with the man. The girl was able to be extricated by a local business owner, and the other occupants of the vehicles found a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. When police and fire fighters arrived on the scene they were able to get the man out of the Subaru, and he was rushed with the girl to Harborview Medical center, both in life threatening condition.
The driver of the Ford Fusion was also critically wounded in the violent impact, and he was taken to Harborview shortly following the others. Police, describing the man as a suspect, have not commented on whether alcohol was involved in the initial collision.
