Officer Is Injured in Automotive Accident
A traffic accident involving a school bus and a Houston policeman has officers investigating, with no driver clearly at fault as yet.
The incident sparked controversy when witnessed reported conflicting testimony with the official police report. The accident is alleged to have occurred on the morning of Wednesday, April 13. The police report states that the officer, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was driving his pickup truck to work when he smashed into a school bus on the 7900 block of Harrisburg, in East Houston. Fortunately no children were on board the bus at the time of the accident, though the police sergeant was injured enough that he had to be taken away on a stretcher.
A spokesman with the Houston police department went on record saying that the bus driver was at fault for the incident, running a stop sign and causing the crash to occur.
Eyewitnesses Tell A Different Story
Despite the HPD report, witnesses who watched events unfold at the scene of the crime have alleged that the officer was the one who ran the stop sign, instigating the crash. The bus driver says that he smelled drunk and had several open containers in his truck, a story backed up by witnesses who claim he threatened them with arrest if they attempted to take pictures.
The police department denies these allegations, saying that while he did have alcoholic containers in his pickup, they were not open, and the sergeant was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.
