Northeast Pennsylvania House Candidate Involved in Serious Multi-Injury Accident

State House of Representatives candidate Raymond Nearhood and several others was seriously injured in a recent accident involving two vehicles. The 61-year-old candidate was driving his 4-door sedan on the Casey highway with two passengers around 11:00 in the morning when the crash occurred. Nearhood reportedly came upon a disabled truck that had run out of gas and was stopped in the left lane. He attempted to swerve around the truck into the median but lost control of his vehicle and went into oncoming traffic lanes. A head on collision with another sedan occurred that sent the other sedan skidding on its side into a ravine. Nearhood, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was unresponsive at the scene when emergency rescue crews arrived. He and his two passengers were taken to local hospitals in serious condition. Crews had to cut the roof of the woman's car to get the passenger in the front seat out from the vehicle. The little girl suffered only minor injuries while both other occupants were listed in more serious condition. Nearhood was listed as being in critical condition on the evening after the accident.
