On November, 2010, nearly 300,000 eggs were recalled by Cal - Maine Foods Inc. This was a reaction to news from the FDA that eggs from one of their suppliers, Ohio Fresh Eggs, tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis (SE). The egg supplier Cal - Maine, produced and packaged 24,000 dozen eggs in the Green Forest, Arkansas facility under the James Farm, Sun Valley and Springfield Grocer labels.
The recalled eggs were distributed to food wholesalers and retailers in eight states including, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. The information was released by the FDA, three days after they notified Cal - Maine.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause severe reactions, even death in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms often include: fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In rare instances, salmonella can get into the blood stream, producing arterial infections, endocarditis or arthritis.
You Can Seek Compensation for Food Poisoning
Food suppliers, manufacturers, grocery stores and restaurants all have a responsibility to the public and the consumer to provide safe, consumable foods. In the event that a contaminated food makes its way to the supermarket shelves or on to your plate or table, and it makes you physically ill, you may be able to seek compensation for damages. The consumer puts their trust in the manufacturers, distributors and restaurants that they obtain their foods from and it is their right to seek compensation when they have suffered a negative physical reaction after consuming harmful, dangerous or contaminated edible products. In many cases, unhealthy foods made their way to the consumer as a result of some form of negligence on the producers or supplier's behalf, which means, food contamination could have been avoided had better safety procedures been practiced.
