An anti-nausea drug called Zofran was removed from the consumer market by the FDA last year due to concerns over its association with cardiac problems. The high-dose version of the prescription medicine at 32 mg. is the form that was removed. Zofran is used to treat nausea and vomiting for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and, in lower doses, for postoperative surgery patients and others with continuous nausea and vomiting, such as pregnant women or those with stomach viruses and the flu. The 32-mg version of the drug is generally given intravenously in a single dose.
In June of 2012, the FDA issued a warning about the high-dose version of the drug, stating that it should be avoided because it raised the risk of developing a potentially deadly heart arrhythmia. In 2010, the FDA issued a statement that another anti-nausea drug also administered in injection form called Anzemet should not be used in adult and child patients. Anzemet also raised the risk of developing an abnormal heart rhythm which could have the potential to be fatal. Those most at risk were individuals who already had an underlying heart condition or an existing abnormal heart rhythm. The tablet form of the drug received a stronger warning listed on its packaging concerning the potential risk for users.

Many prescription drugs over the past few decades have turned out to be more harmful than beneficial, resulting in thousands of cases of health damage and even death. The harmful side effects have included such problems as heart attacks, strokes, respiratory problems, birth defects, and more. In such cases, those injured due to the negligence of pharmaceutical manufacturers may seek legal recourse through an injury claim or lawsuit. In some cases, these turn into class action suits on behalf of the many victims.
