Couple Faces Potential Jail Sentence After Dog Attack Kills Neighbor
In a vicious attack by two dogs on January 26th, a San Francisco woman was fatally wounded in the hallway outsider her apartment, reports CNN.
The couple who were responsible for the dogs, both attorneys, are facing charges of murder and manslaughter, and are currently being held in Tehema County. Marjorie Knoller has been indicted with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and keeping a mischievous animal. Her partner, Robert Noel, is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter and keeping a mischievous animal.
The couple was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol near Fairfield, 50 miles from San Francisco, on reckless driving charges. They were leaving a hearing where a grand jury was considering charging them with murder for the dog attack case. Knoller’s bail bond has been set at $2 million, and Noel’s is currently set at $1 million. It is not clear if they were attempting to flee San Francisco.
Dogs Sentenced to Death
The couple was keeping the two dogs in their custody after rescuing them from an alleged dog-fighting ring being run by an inmate in a Pelican Bay prison, who reportedly sponsors the fighting ring for local drug dealers to participate in.
The male dog, named Bane, was put to death soon after the attack, after being apprehended by law enforcement officers. The female, Hera, is currently awaiting a lethal injection ordered by San Francisco’s Animal Control Department. She may be kept alive for a while longer, as investigators could need her for evidence.
