Car Loses Control, Leaps Curb In Phoenix
The operator of a car who is alleged to have killed a pedestrian is currently being held in police custody, with tests pending to determine if he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
According to a report filed by law enforcement officials investigating the jogger's death, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, August 24th. The victim, a 54-year old woman, was out for her early morning run, traveling down the sidewalk following the Warner-Elliot Loop. At about 6:00 a.m. near 44
th Street and Elliot Road, she was struck by a 2007 Nissan Maxima that somehow had swerved of the street and onto to sidewalk.
Paramedics Attempt Quick Trip To Phoenix Hospital
A sergeant with the Phoenix police said that law enforcement officers are still unclear as to what precisely caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drive onto the curb into the path of the pedestrian. According to the report, the car had to travel across all the intervening lanes in order to reach the sidewalk before striking the victim.
Regardless of what caused the incident, emergency responders arrived quickly in response to the call. They attempted to perform what is sometimes referred to as a 'scoop and run', which means that instead of attempting to perform triage on the injured person at the scene, paramedics load the person into the ambulance and attempt to take him or her as quickly as possible to a hospital for treatment.
Despite the timely response, the woman died from her injuries shortly after arriving at the local hospital.
Investigators say they did not discover any skid marks at the scene, which implies tat the driver never attempted to brake before striking the victim. According to authorities, they have not ruled out impairment, and are waiting for rest results.
