A man working on construction on Governor's Island was crushed and killed when a large pipe being unloaded from a truck fell on him. A.B., 55 years old, had been working at the ongoing construction project on the island to turn the former military base into a park. A trust was put in place to turn the area into New York City parkland by fall of this year. The tragic construction accident occurred shortly before 8:30 in the morning. A.B. was with a team of other workers who were unloading large pipes, 15 feet long and two feet in diameter, from a flatbed truck. One of the pipes somehow came loose from a bundled group of pipes and fell onto A.B. He sustained severe crush injuries and died at the scene. Police and paramedics arrived but nothing could be done. Investigators are looking into the incident to determine exactly how it occurred and if there were any safety violations or other negligence. If you were seriously injured at the workplace or if a family member was killed in an on the job accident then consult with a personal injury lawyer today to learn about your legal rights to compensation.
