According to a 2003 statement made by an academic geneticist and pharmaceutical industry top executive, the vast majority of drugs only work in 30-50% of the people. Dr. Roses further stated that drugs for Alzheimer's disease work in less than one in three patients and drugs for cancer work for one out of four. The drugs for osteoporosis, migraines and arthritis, he stated, work in about half of the patients.
Many Doctors are Frustrated
A large percentage of doctors entered the medical profession as they wanted to help people and cure their illnesses, but the main tools they have been taught to use in medical school are medication and surgery. Many doctors are experiencing frustration at this dilemma and want to offer their patients more choices for treatment. The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most profitable industries in the world despite the fact that many of the drugs are not particularly effective and many have dangerous side effects.
FDA Recalls Are Not Uncommon
When enough people experience negative effects from a dangerous pharmaceutical drug, the FDA will request a recall or minimally will require that the manufacturer put stricter and more apparent warnings on the labels to warn consumers of the dangerous side effects. Numerous drugs that have been placed on the market throughout the years have caused injury and even death to patients resulting in many personal injury claims.
