Britney Spears Sued After Breaking Dancer's Nose During Rehearsal

As reported by the Courthouse News Service, Los Angeles Times, and others, pop singer Britney Spears is being sued by one of her back-up dancers for breaking her nose during a rehearsal for the new "Work Bitch" music video.

Along with Spears, Reign Deer Entertainment was also named as a defendant in the suit.

The dancer, who at the time was assured that Spears would cover her damages, filed the lawsuit when all negotiations were abruptly cut off.

During an August 19, 2013, video shoot, in which dancer D.N. and others had been rehearsing for a couple of hours, Spears arrived "in a disheveled and confused state," according to the lawsuit.

The suit states, "Although the choreography involving defendant Britney Spears was fairly basic, she was having difficulty learning the moves, performing dance steps and following simple directions."

Then, as Spears failed to successfully complete the routine, she outstretched her arms, twirled though "unbalanced" and smacked D.N. square in the face.

According to the suit the sound of bone cracking was heard throughout the rehearsal hall. The suit states, "Upon being struck in the face by defendant Britney Spears, plaintiff (D.N.) and the other dancers heard a cracking sound which they immediately knew to be the sound of plaintiff's nose breaking. Plaintiff (D.N.) felt immediate intense pain…"

Spears, realizing what she had done, turned to D.N., said she was "sorry" and then went back to the job of rehearsing.

D.N. stuck through the routine about 30 more minutes until she "could no longer stand the pain" and left to see a doctor. She was diagnosed with fractures to her nasal bone and told she needed to have surgery to correct it.

Months have since passed and though Spears and Reign Deer Entertainment allegedly said they would cover D.N.'s medical bills none have been paid.

The attorney representing D.N., Sark Ohanian, commented, "She's been very patient and I don't understand why they wouldn't just do the right thing." Ohanian claims that S.N.'s professional life has been affected by the injury and she is not insured – there is no dancer's union – to cover the costs of surgery. To this day, according to Ohanian, his client has issues with breathing.

Ohanian said, "She isn't looking to get rich off this" and is seeking damages for battery, negligence and medical expenses.

The suit explains, "After months of waiting for defendants to come through with their promise, and making certain that this incident did not become public knowledge to protect the privacy of all involved, defendants' representative then advised that they would not pay for any of plaintiff's medical treatment. Defendants and their representatives have failed to even reimburse plaintiff for her medical appointment from the day of the incident. As such, plaintiff had not choice but to retain counsel to bring this action in court to obtain compensation for her damages."
