A woman is claiming in a lawsuit that a Planned Parenthood office forced her to complete an abortion without I.V. anesthesia, was sent home with pain pills alone and later ended up in an emergency room where it was discovered that part of the baby was left inside of her, as reported by The New American.
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) – a pro-life advocacy group – is representing A.B., 40, in the lawsuit.
The suit names the Planned Parenthood franchise, and one of its doctors, as defendants.
The suit alleges that A.B. entered the Planned Parenthood facility to have an abortion. However, during the procedure, having realized that she would not be under I.V. sedation, she changed her mind about having it done.
According to the suit, the doctor, also referred to as an abortionist in the lawsuit, continued to treat A.B. though the staff was unable to get the I.V. into her vein.
A vacuum machine was turned on and A.B. was "forced to feel the full pain of the procedure against her will and without the promised anesthesia…the abortionist stopped after seven minutes and sent (A.B.) home with pain pills."
Two days after the abortion, suffering with pain, A.B. went to an emergency room for help. According to the physician that was on call, A.B. was "septic with a high fever and elevated white count…I called Planned Parenthood the following day to inquire about pathology results, only to learn that no pathology is done on abortion patients. The doctor performing the abortion 'looks' at the tissue and makes a diagnosis."
According to the emergency room doctor no practicing doctor "can maintain privileges to practice and perform surgery if they do not provide specific coverage for their patients in case of a complication. It is considered 'abandonment' of your patient. It is not acceptable to refer your patients to the Emergency Department and assume the on-call doctor will take care of any complications and assume all the risk associated with the complications."
The doctor further commented that he felt that it is "medically inappropriate for a physician to remove products of conception and not confirm the diagnosis with pathology. I know of no physician or hospital that would allow the removal of a specimen of this nature and assume what the diagnosis was by just 'looking' at it."
The ADF attorney representing A.B., Doug Romero, commented, "A woman's life is more important than Planned Parenthood's bottom line" and that the treatment his client endured "is beyond the pale. They clearly put her through extraordinary cruelty and jeopardized her life. Their actions were intolerable."
Michael J. Norton, Senior Counsel for ADF, commented, "Planned Parenthood is irresponsible and only promotes its own self-interest. That was clearly seen most vividly in what they did to (A.B.).
