A television anchorwoman that suffered physical and emotional abuse during a romantic relationship, that included the man forcing an unwanted abortion on her and then social networking about it to ruin her career, has filed a personal injury lawsuit, as reported by the Courthouse News Service.
"Jane Doe", as named in the lawsuit, is suing her former boyfriend, Upland resident C.U., for invasion of privacy, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.
The Superior Court complaint states that Doe, a Korean TV anchorwoman, is seeking punitive damages due to C.U.'s "calculated assassination of her reputation" because he sought "to exact revenge for his rebuffed romantic advances."
Doe claims that in the late 1990s her career in on-air journalism and product endorsements prospered. In May of 2010, she met C.H. and the two began dating and made plans to marry. By October of that year, Doe, learning that she had become pregnant, began being pressured by C.H. to abort the child.
According to the complaint C.H. "demanded that plaintiff undergo an abortion. Plaintiff resisted by C.H. dragged plaintiff from one abortion clinic to another. C.H. repeatedly badgered plaintiff to abort their baby. He even forced her to swallow sleeping pills and cold medicine, and had her climb a mountain, and then told her that she should abort the baby because of the now heightened chances of having a disabled child."
Doe stated that though she didn't want the abortion she finally conceded to C.H.'s demands.
The suit states, "…When the couple got into arguments, C.H. threatened to sabotage plaintiff's career by informing the media about her abortion. C.H.'s temper also manifested itself in violence. For example, C.H. often would become enraged and smash objects within his reach if plaintiff refused to accede to his every demand. Notably, C.H. smashed seven of plaintiff's cellular phones in a period of just a year and a half, simply because plaintiff would answer phone calls in C.H.'s presence."
Doe described the physical abuse in the suit as being "shoved" and "crushed" enough that she "suffered bruises and lacerations." The emotional abuse included harassment, "sexual perversion" and C.H. "surreptitiously" filming their sexual encounters.
Doe broke it off with C.H. in March of 2011. Then, to retaliate, C.H. made the decision to destroy her career via his twitter account and tweets to his 5,000 followers. Allegedly tweets regarding Does' abortion, plastic surgery and videos of the couple were sent out by C.H.
The suit states that C.H. further threatened Doe by saying "he would contact plaintiff's employees unless plaintiff answered Hsu's phone calls, and that he would disseminate their sex videos to the public."
Doe agreed to take his calls for a time, then, according to the suit, when she tried to break it off again he resumed his harassment.
