An animal control officer for Yakima County is suing for damages after sustaining a serious dog bite injury while working. The officer almost lost her nose while trying to detain a dog in 2010. The victim, 38-year-old J.S., was sent to a home in Yakima where she was attacked by a dog. The animal latched onto her face and nearly removed the tip of her nose in the process. Although the family was fined $500 by local officials for allowing the dog to run free and failing to have it registered, the victim is not satisfied with the punishment. She has filed a dog bite lawsuit against the county and the dog's owners for an unspecified amount.
At this time, neither the city nor the other defendants in the case are responding to questions about the pending litigation. As for the dog, it was euthanized shortly after the attack and it is believed to have been a Labrador mix. If you suffered a dog bite due to owner negligence consult a personal injury lawyer in your area so you remain advised of your legal options.
