Woman Injured in Spontaneous Bullet Explosion

A Pennsylvania woman was shopping at a Lowe’s when a bullet in her purse suddenly exploded, shooting through her purse and into her leg. The woman was not carrying a gun. Instead, she had three bullets in her purse for an unknown reason. A police chief in the area assumes that something tapped the primer on the bullet, causing the sudden explosion. The woman who was hurt did not seek medical attention for three hours after the accident, but eventually drove herself to the hospital at her son’s request. The New York Daily News calls the accident a “freak” occurrence. Another man in Modesto, California was injured in a similar instance in April when he was hit by a 0.22 caliber bullet that was lying on the ground. He dropped a dumbbell on the bullet, which caused it to explode.
Accidents like these are rare, but they do occur. Sometimes the chemicals in bullet can cause combustion, and the small item can do a lot of damage. If you were hurt in a freak accident like this one, someone may be at fault. The manufacturer of the bullets may be to blame for their unexpected boom, or possibly a company who left a bullet on the floor in the Modesto case. If you are injured in an accident like this one, then you may want to press charges. Depending on the situation, you may be able to obtain damages because of premises liability, or because of negligence. Also, a product manufacturing error that was not announced and recalled can qualify as a lawsuit possibility. You might also want to try and receive compensation for the pain and suffering that you experienced while recovering from your wounds. If you received permanent damage, then this only heightens your ability to sue. Contact a personal injury attorney for more information.
