The Health and Safety Hazards of Hurricane Isaac

A hurricane has been pounding the east coast of the United States and sending thousands of families inland to wait out the storm. Sadly, these hurricanes don’t come without dangers. Isaac has already claimed one fatality and has stranded many in the flooded areas where they can’t get home. The storm has weakened in should be a tropical depression by tonight, but it is still wreaking havoc in the south.

All low-lying areas in Louisiana and Mississippi are being evacuated, because of the potential flooding. The evacuations are also necessary because of the Lake Tangipahoa River Dam, which has not breached, but has suffered significant damage in the torrential weather. Thousands of homes have been damaged in recent days because of the overwhelming amounts of water and the strong winds.

The emergency services personnel have been going door to door to let people know that they need to leave the premises before they are injured or the house is damaged. If you are involved in a natural disaster like Hurricane Isaac, you may be able to start a lawsuit for your injuries.

The fact is, you can’t sue just because the natural phenomenon occurred. Yet you can sue if a rescue team purposely failed to notify you of danger, or ignored your cries for help. Also, if you are in a building that has not been built according to state standards which are supposed to prevent flooding and withstand hurricanes, then you may be able to sue if the construction fails to hold up and causes damages.

You can talk to a personal injury lawyer in your area to file a claim and get the representation that you need to seek damages for your losses. Don’t take steps towards your lawsuit until you have a lawyer on your side to represent you in court!
