Parents Move Forward with Wrongful Death Claim

The parents of a 37-year-old man who was beaten to death in a park three years ago have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the county and the county 911 center where their son was killed. Their son got into a fight in a park late one night and was eventually killed by his attacker. The man responsible for the son's death has been put in prison and is serving a nine-year sentence. However, the parents are alleging that the local 911 center received calls about the fight 90 minutes before any emergency responders arrived on the scene.
Evidently neighbors near the park called 911 when they heard fighting. Despite receiving two separate calls about the fight the dispatcher failed to send anyone to the park. It was not until a third call came in that the dispatcher sent police, fire, and emergency medical services to the scene.
The emergency personnel found the son dead of severe head and chest trauma. The parents of the man who was killed are suing on the grounds that the dispatcher could have prevented their son's death if they acted according to protocol. The lawsuit claims that the county acted negligently in failing to properly train, hire, monitor, and supervise the conduct of its dispatchers.
