Two Ships Collide and Coast Guard Gets Called

The Coast Guard had their hands full last Thursday when an outbound cargo ship hit a pogey fishing boat late Wednesday night.

According to Coast Guard Commander Don Rose, a 25 square mile safety zone was set up in the crash area. The boats collided in an area about 35 feet deep; however, the fishing boat is stuck on the edge of the shipping channel, in 25 feet of water. Although no foul play is suspected right now, the captains of both boats have been interviewed and their boating records investigated to get more details about the incident.

Considering what everyone went through, the thirteen men that were rescued escaped with just a few bumps and bruises. While debris has started to wash up on the shores of Cat Island, search and rescue teams are still scouring the area. Divers from the DMR and Biloxi police will be helping out in the effort.
