Accident Leaves One Person Dead

An auto accident on Interstate 40 near Gorman Street left one person dead last week.

Although police still aren't sure why Amelia Hernandez-Garcia, 34, stopped her car in the middle lane of traffic, got out of her vehicle and attempted to ask for help from another motorist, they are sure of what happened next. A chain reaction caused a five-car pileup around 9 p.m. As a result Hernandez-Garcia was killed while nine other people were brought to the hospital for treatment.

Emergency workers shut down all the lanes of I-40 westbound to clear the accident. At this time no charges have been filed.
