After driving his car into a canyon, a man in Poway is lucky to still be alive, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
According to police reports, the 52-year-old victim was driving on Tech Center Drive around 8:15 a.m. when he missed a turn, and drove over the side of the cliff. Capt. Tom Stephenson confirmed that the vehicle travelled 350 straight down into the ravine, but luckily did not overturn. Rescuers went down into the ravine, pulled him out of the vehicle, and placed him into the waiting Copter 2. The victim was then transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
At that time, the victim was awake but complaining of back pain. Officers quickly determined that the victim had been wearing a seatbelt, and the airbags of his black Mercedes did deploy upon impact.
