What could have been a fatal accident turned out to be just a serious scare for two people in El Cajon last weekend.
According to reports, a vehicle was heading west when it struck a truck carrying scaffolding. The impact was so severe as to cause the scaffolding to penetrate the front windshield, coming within inches of causing grave injuries to the people inside the car. However, the driver and his passenger walked away with just minor injuries from the accident. Yet, the driver of the truck did not fare so well, as he was found to be driving under the influence.
After speaking with the victims in the car, officers learned that the truck driver had changed lanes without warning, not giving the driver enough time to avoid an accident. The 35-year-old male truck driver has since been charged with suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a drunk driving accident.
